ST ANDREWS PRIMARY SCHOOL

St Andrews Primary School in Oswaldtwistle is watching its energy

A primary school in Oswaldtwistle Lancashire, having recently undergone a new extension to expand its capacity, has taken the opportunity to monitor and display its energy consumption so all the pupils and staff can see how much energy it is saving.

Lancashire County Council commissioned Future Focus Energy and Eaton Electrical to provide new electrical switchgear system and a state of the art energy management and metering system for the new extension to the existing building, with the objective of having real time data available that could be viewed easily and be able to engage its users.

Eaton Electrical supplied new electrical switchboards for the site, installing meters in them that would record the energy being used in these circuits. Future Focus Energy supplied a monitoring panel that would collect all the information from the meters that have been installed and send this information off to a secure server which then uploads all the data to be viewed online and viewed in real time.

By remotely collecting data from the new meters installed in the school, the new monitoring solution provides live information on the schools energy consumption and costs. All the data can be viewed online from any web enabled computer or mobile device via a secure login, without the need for special expensive software installed on a dedicated computer sat in the corner. The school has also installed an Energy Dashboard in a most prominent position so pupils and staff alike can see how they are saving their energy at all times.

As a result of the monitoring system installed the school can now pro-actively manage and reduce its energy consumption, additionally as the data can be viewed from an location – the Energy Team within Lancashire County Council can access and view data across any of their portfolio where monitoring has been installed – which will ultimately help to reduce its carbon footprint.
